Describe yourself, your family, background, farming experience, philosophy, goals and interests

Brooke from Vermont and Sean from New Hampshire, left their roots following a passion with Sled Dogs. This path led them from New England to Alaska and then eventually landing them in Montana allowing them to establish new roots.

Fast forward 18 years and Voila! Here we are helping to provide access to local foods. Having always had a small home garden, we generously shared our bounty with those around us. Now following the need to fulfill the growing demand we have upped our game and have a 1.5acre vegetable farm. We love growing food for our community. It is perhaps the most rewarding endeavor. Our Veggie Club Members and the Chefs we work with are part of our food family.

Describe the physical setting of your farm and the nature of the community in which you live

We are located in Whitefish Montana, just 25 minutes west of Glacier National Park. We rent our farm land and utilize our in town home location for post harvest handling and organizing.

Describe your farm operation

Wicked Good Produce, a diversified vegetable farm located in Whitefish, Montana that practices intensive, reduced tillage and organic techniques on approximately one and a half acres. The farm provides food to our community via several avenues including our veggie club memberships and direct sales to wholesale accounts. We strive to provide a fun and cheery work environment.

Describe the work to be performed by applicant

Farm worker will assist with all aspects of our operation. This includes but is not limited to greenhouse seeding, watering, transplanting, cultivating and harvesting of crops. Will use hand tools such as hoes, trowels, shovels, harvest knives, scissors, paper pot transplanter, field seeders, and a flame weeder. Will assist with post-harvest handling and packing, pack and organize weekly orders. May construct trellises, repair fences and high tunnels or storage building, apply fertilizers/compost, install irrigation and apply row covers.

What do you expect of a worker?

Farmer workers are expected to work 40-50hrs per week. Applicants should be interested in learning about intensive vegetable production and building local food systems. Farming is humbling and rewarding as it requires long days in all types of weather (snow, rain, extreme heat) and it is physically and mentally demanding. We are looking for individuals who are hardworking, dependable, observant, self-motivated and willing to challenge themselves to improve technique and efficiencies. A love for fresh delicious produce, soil, and the outdoors are a must!

Describe the learning and educational opportunities available to a worker

We do not offer formal educational opportunities but you will learn by working side by side with us. We welcome questions about our operation as well as farming in general and enjoy sharing information. If interested in visiting other farms in the valley we are more than willing to facilitate that experience. If you are interested in starting your own small scale vegetable farm we would greatly enjoy the opportunity to help you on you way! Our valley and beyond need more small scale farmers.
