Describe yourself, your family, background, farming experience, philosophy, goals and interests

We are a non-profit organization whose mission is to build a strong community system that fosters socially just ways of accessing food. We believe that sharing the act of planting seeds, growing food, harvested and eating that food as well as saving seeds is become more and more a radical act! We have to continue to share this with children and our community.

Describe the physical setting of your farm and the nature of the community in which you live

We maintain two gardens. The Wildcat Garden located at the Columbia Falls Junior High is 1/2 acres and boasts 49 fruits trees, raised and inground beds as well as classroom space and soon an outdoor kitchen. The Healing Garden at North Valley Hospital has a native plant and orchard area coupled with raised beds.

Describe your farm operation

The gardens are maintained for Vegetable and Fruit production, pollinator space and seed saving. We use organic practices in both spaces. We do not currently sell any products, we use the produce for the Hospital Cafe and the School Snack Program.

Describe the work to be performed by applicant

We seek a garden manager that will maintain both spaces including spring prep, weeding, planting, harvesting, orchard management, etc.

What do you expect of a worker?

We expect a minimum of 30 hours a week between the two spaces. Most of this time will be physical work in the gardens. We also expect volunteer organization and management and active communication with Education Coordinator. This position will also include taking pictures and making short videos for the Communications Coordinator.

Describe the learning and educational opportunities available to a worker

The Garden manager will have some mentorship with the Education Coordinator and Executive Director, but will be expected to work independently as well. We have many interested volunteers who are often experienced gardeners.

Describe what other occupation(s) you have

We are a non-profit organization so this is just a part of our work. For more information go to our website farmhandsnourish.org
