Please elaborate on your willingness to mentor or advise the entering farmer or rancher:I am an experienced organic producer and am more than happy to advise and direct the right person or couple. We are phasing out from market gardening and are currently brewing Kombucha, doing some vegetable fermentation and haying/cover cropping the property. The land is very fertile and has sprinkler and flood irrigation. We have all the equipment for row cropping or raised bed and are willing to assist in developing a new farming operation.
In your judgment, which crops/agricultural purposes are best suited to your land and which would you support on your land?Hay & Forage, Small Animal (pigs, rabbits, poultry), Vegetable, Fruit/Orchard, Other
Please elaborate on the crops/agricultural purposes that are best suited to your land:The farm has grown just about all of the market garden vegetables, forage and hays. It's a good soil and we have plenty of compost from a nearby cattle operation.
Please summarize your long-term goals regarding your land:Geyser Farm has been a small Market Garden operation on the urban edge of Livingston. Our long-term goal is to continue our transition from Market Garden to smaller scale food processing. We have an operational commercial kitchen and brewery, and plan to continue working in food processing but would like to have a farmer/fermenter work with us, primarily on the production side of the farm. We are also quite open to working with a producer who has value-added interests, particularly in fermentation.
