Briefly describe your current occupation(s) and responsibilities and list previous agricultural employment and experiences. If you are currently farming or ranching, please state the size, type(s), and location of the operation. We are a couple in our late 20's currently finishing up our research degrees at Washington State University (Pullman, WA) in Soil and Crop Science (Master's Program). Prior to WSU, we worked for Biological Capital at Hana Ranch, transitioning 4,000 acre operation to organic certification for both livestock and horticultural crops. We have also worked for Mulloon Creek Natural Farms developing their pasture monitoring and grazing management plans.
David is currently conducting research on water use efficiency and irrigation scheduling management in organic no-till systems in western Washington. Julianne is conducting organic quinoa breeding research focused on participatory plant breeding with farmers on the Olympic Peninsula. We would like to meet current farmers and landowners with interests in diversifying their current operation, leasing acreage, preserving their agricultural land, minimizing the ecological footprint of production acreage, conducting trials to determine region-specific farming practices and cultivars, and contribute to the health and wealth of a community.
We will be in Western Montana July 18-22 to visit with prospective land holders.

Transition ArrangementsBuy/Sell, Lease, Open to other arrangements
If you are interested in another type of business arrangement, please explainLand ownership is not top priority for us, but securing long term lease acreage is important as our farm management practices depend on increasing soil quality and organic matter. Lease-to-own would be an option for us if property owner is interested. We are open to current property owner/operators to remain on the land. Primary concern is keeping leased acreage protected from residential development. We are interested in agricultural conservation easements as well.
Please elaborate on the kind of additional training/information that would help you:Will need to gain knowledge of local soil types, seasonal weather patterns, and common crop-disease cycles from existing land stewards.
