Me and my fiance run a small trucking company in wisconsin. We also have a small cow calf operation of 120 females and around 30 registered angus. we are looking to transition to a larger farm to grow our herd to a sustainable number. We have a good market for our meat. We can continue our trucking business in relation to our new venture by transporting our products via refrigerated trucks.

Please elaborate on the type(s) of agricultural operation you plan on running.

we would like to run a grass based operation with minimal confinement. The market we sell to has guidlines to follow for finishing market animals.

Elaborate on the farming practices you plan on using.

By using high desity grazing practices you can improve soil health. This will increase grass production which in turn increases animal units per acre. I understand most of montana is 30 acres per head. We are from wisconsin where is ranges from 3 acres per head to 1. We have built up some of our lease pastures to be able to handle 2.5-3 animals per acre depending on rain fall. We feel this practice will work in any enviroment, but it takes time to implement.

Please elaborate on the kind of additional training/information that would help you:

I have owned and Operated a coast to coast refrigerated trucking company since 2002. Im well versed in the food market industry from dealing with suppliers and wholesalers. I work very well under pressure due to the nature of the business. We have also been able to grow our herd large enough to the numbers we have today without relying on the animals to support themselves. Transportation has many faces. We are a family run business that would like to expand more into our true passion with cattle.
