Please elaborate on the type(s) of agricultural operation you plan on running. We plan to run a small-scale, intensive organic (not certified) vegetable operation, drawing most of our inspiration from John Martin Fortier, Elliot Coleman, and Curtis Stone. The farm will be diverse but with an emphasis on salad greens, herbs, greenhouse tomatoes, and garlic.
Elaborate on the farming practices you plan on using. We have been experimenting with intensive planting, cultivating with a walk-behind tractor and hand tools. Our beds are 30" wide with 18" isles which allows for us to maximize the potential of our space and work more efficiently by hand. We start our plants in a greenhouse that is currently heated by a wood stove but next season we hope that compost bins in the greenhouse and water barrels for thermal mass will provide much of the heat. Going forward we hope to experiment more with season extension to help us produce in seasons otherwise unsuitable for farming, and to incorporate more biodynamic principles into our farming.
