I am currently the ranch manager of a 900 hd commercial cow calf ranch consisting of 8500 acres. We also have an extensive habitat management program for waterfowl and large game. The ranch is located in Modesto CA. Prior to this position I was Assistant General Manager for a 60,000 head feedlot in Colorado. Our family farm in Colorado was sold when my grandparents died, since then I have been working towards having a ranch that I can leave to my boys if they so desire. I have been in the cattle and farming industry my entire life and through great owners and bosses have learned a lot (but certainly not all) about producing cattle.

Please elaborate on the type(s) of agricultural operation you plan on running.

I would like to run a mid to large size (300+) commercial cow calf operation. Most likely it would be conventional cattle although I currently run NHTC and believe that any value added marketing that works well with the ranch would be utilized to enhance profits. Part of any ranch is the hay/forage needed for feeding so the ranch I would be interested in would have good water rights and good irrigation. I am married with 3 boys; 4-10yrs old, so housing on the ranch would be preferable but not mandatory in the early years of a lease/ partnership. I have a good background in budgeting/ marketing and can create a business plan.
I have always been involved in local and national associations and believe they are a great tool to inform others on what we do and to unite against unfair/ uneducated regulations.
