Briefly describe your current occupation(s) and responsibilities and list previous agricultural employment and experiences. If you are currently farming or ranching, please state the size, type(s), and location of the operation.I currently work at Malmstrom AFB, MT as an Industrial Support Systems Mechanic. I am retired active duty Air Force and I was a mechanic for 21 years. My family had a hobby farm of 10 Simmental cows, 7 Hampshire hogs with 40 acres of hay ground that I helped with daily. I worked for Kingsdale Farms which was a large hog farm for 3.5 years in the late 80s until 1992. The last 6 years I have assisted a friend with his cow calf and hay operation in Emigrant, Montana under the T Lazy Y brand. He has 128 head of Angus cows and was farming 200 irrigated acres of hay. I assist with cutting/bailing hay, irrigating, seeding, ground work, irrigation system maintenance on the center pivot and wheel line mover, branding, pre-seasoning, calving, shipping, feeding and herd decisions to enhance his cattle operation. I also assisted with cattle care on a remote summer mountain pasture that is leased from the Forest Service. Since I stopped farming and joined the Air Force my plan was to start farming again once I retired. I can't think of a better way to continue to serve our great nation than going back to agriculture.
